Cat or Rabbit Groomer Time Periods When Assistance is Needed Daily during regular volunteer hours Groomers are asked to commit to visiting the shelter to groom a minimum of twice a month and asked to maintain a regular schedule. Related Tasks Brush cats and rabbits to improve coat and alert staff of animals that need a more thorough grooming. Trim cat and rabbit nails as needed. Weigh animals as needed. Alert staff to any issues of medical concern. Other related assistance, as directed by the Red Door staff. Special Capabilities Needed Must be able to learn and use safe animal handling practices when interacting with the animals. Must be able to learn and retain various protocols and follow direction, working with very little direct supervision. Training All volunteers who help as groomers must first attend the volunteer orientation and complete a grooming training/job shadowing shift with senior grooming volunteers or shelter staff. Commitment Grooming volunteers are asked to assist in this area a minimum of twice a month and commit to a regular schedule for a minimum of three months, though they are welcome to stay as long as they want.
